  46. record, Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes lost everything with

  50. national basketball title that touched even Georgetown. Kareem
  51. Abdul-Jabbar lifted himself and the Los Angeles Lakers to an
  52. amazing height at 38. Point shavers rubbed out Tulane.

  54. <p>MOST CHECKERED FLAGS: Racing cheered a speeding playboy, Indy
  55. 500 Winner Danny Sullivan. Hockey buried a playboy speeder,
  56. Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Pelle Lindbergh.

  58. <p>HUGEST IMPACT: The Chicago Bears have manhandled the N.F.L.,
  59. but William Perry has moved the country. If there were two
  60. athletes of the year, the Refrigerator might be both.</p>
